Methodology of research
Throughout the project up to date techniques will be applied. In the syntheses, small amounts of reagents will be used in catalytic porcesses preferably with no use of harmful organic solvents. As a new technique, flow reactors will be used for synthesis and catalysis. Characterization of the products will be based on elemental analysis, NMR (also under pressure, if needed for reaction of gases) and other HRMS methods; for separation and quantification in time GC and HPLC will be used (also as MS-coupled techniques). Vibrational CD spectroscopy will be introduced to the armory of the methods available in Debrecen. Carbohydrate-protein interactions will be studied with ITC, while enzymatic metabolism of galactose will be investigated by determination and analysis of metabolic fluxus.
For studies of fast reactions the main techniques of investigation include stopped flow and laser flash photolysis; in case of photoinitiated reactions these will be supplemented by use of an in-house developed photoreactor. Evaluation of kinetic data will apply stochastic methods. Reactions of gases under high pressure will be studied in a Parr-reactor. All these methods and equipment will efficiently support reaching of the targeted results of international level in quality.
